The Sahel covers parts of the territory of (from west to east) Senegal, southern part of Mauritania, Mali, southern part of Algeria, Niger, Chad, southern part of Sudan and Eritrea. It is bordered on the north by the Sahara and on the south by the less arid Savannah.
